The Chaplet of the Seven Sorrows is a deeply moving Catholic devotion that invites the faithful to walk the Via Matris—the Way of the Mother—by meditating on the sorrows Mary carried in her heart.
This beautiful tradition has ancient roots in the Church and was especially promoted by the Servite Order, founded in 1233 by a group known as the Seven Holy Founders. Their deep devotion to Our Lady of Sorrows inspired the creation of the Servite Rosary, also known as the Chaplet of the Seven Sorrows of Mary.
The chaplet focuses on seven key moments in the life of the Blessed Virgin when she endured profound suffering, each offering a way to unite our own sorrows with hers:
- The Prophecy of Simeon (Luke 2:34–35)
- The Flight into Egypt (Matthew 2:13)
- The Loss of the Child Jesus in the Temple (Luke 2:43–45)
- Mary Meets Jesus on the Way to Calvary (Traditional)
- Mary Stands at the Foot of the Cross (John 19:25)
- Jesus is Taken Down from the Cross (Matthew 27:57–59)
- The Burial of Jesus (John 19:40–42)
- This chaplet is perfect for personal reflection, Lenten prayer, or as a heartfelt gift to someone seeking comfort and deeper connection to Our Lady’s compassionate heart.
